BATON ROUGE - Memorial Day services scheduled across the area will pay tribute to Louisiana's veterans and their families today.

Services began at 10 a.m. at the West Baton Rouge courthouse in Port Allen. Parish leaders and dignitaries read the name of soldiers who died in service to their country, and an honor guard performed a rifle salute.

More salutes are planned at the national cemeteries in Port Hudson at 11 a.m. and Baton Rouge at 2 p.m. National cemetery officials said a nationwide moment of remembrance would take place at 3 p.m. as well.

The annual USS Kidd Memorial Day service is also scheduled for 1 p.m. It'll be held in the Louisiana Memorial Plaza at 305 South River Road.

The Ascension Parish Veteran's Park Association scheduled their services for 11 a.m. Monday, with local school choirs and a motorcycle honor guard.

News 2 has crews throughout the area for Memorial Day, with coverage starting on WBRZ News 2 at Noon.
