Memorial Day ceremonies to honor fallen heroes
BATON ROUGE - There are several services today to honor the men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty.
In Baton Rouge, a Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the USS Kidd to pay tribute to the more than 7,000 Louisianans who died in the line of duty.
The annual Memorial Day ceremony at Port Hudson National Cemetery is also scheduled for 11 a.m.
At 2 p.m., there will be a service at the Baton Rouge National Cemetery on North 19th Street.
In Gonzales, there will be a ceremony at Veteran's Park on Irma Boulevard in Gonzales at 11:00 a.m. Capt. Dennis Beaver, retired US Navy, who is the commander of the St. Amant High School NJROTC Program will be the guest speaker.
President Barack Obama has laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in a visit to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, the final resting place for many American war heroes.
