Meeting with engineer first step of considering new river bridge
PLAQUEMINE- Parish leaders met with an engineer to discuss a study that would investigate the feasibility of a new bridge across the Mississippi River Wednesday.
The bridge would connect Iberville and Ascension parishes and help ease traffic congestion on the I-10 bridge in Baton Rouge.
Tuesday, the parish council approved an agreement with Ascension Parish to spend up to $300,000 for the study. The state is also studying the possibility of a new bridge over the river.
"Ascension has partnered with Iberville of knowing the necessity of another bridge," Iberville Parish President Mitch Ourso said in an interview Tuesday. "If a bridge is going to be thought about, we just want some consideration."
Ourso said he was not prepared to elaborate on the conversation he had with the engineer about the bridge.
