Medicare turns 50

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance coverage for more than 50 million Americans.
Before Medicare, senior citizens were plagued by poverty, shorter life spans and very few options for affordable healthcare. More than 10,000 Americans turn 65 every day and enroll in Medicare, the program supports more than 700,000 people in Louisiana.
