Media wants Benson trial to be public
NEW ORLEANS - More people are getting involved in Tom Benson's legal battle.
ESPN and other media outlets are saying the trial should be open to the public.
Earlier this month a judge ruled the trial would be closed. Now, the media is asking to have that decision thrown out.
The legal fiasco began when Benson's daughter and grandchildren sued him when he cut them out of his succession plan. Instead he decided to leave ownership of the Saints and Pelicans to his wife, Gayle. His daughter and grandchildren argue that Benson isn't mentally fit to make that decision.
