McKinley student accused of carrying gun in backpack
BATON ROUGE – A McKinley High School junior accused of bringing a gun to school was arrested Tuesday after a gun was found in a backpack.
Members of the School Drug Task Force booked Owen Salgado Galo, 17, into the Parish Prison for illegal carrying of a weapon on school property and obliterated serial number.
Galo was involved in a fight with another student at a bus stop, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said. When Galo arrived on campus, school administrators searched both students and found a loaded .380 handgun in Galo’s bag, she said.
Galo told administrators he did not know where he got the weapon.
EBRSO is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact a school administrator or the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office at 225-389-5000.
