McAllister sworn in as Congressman
BATON ROUGE - Vance McAllister has been sworn in as the newest member of Congress.
He will represent northeast, central, and a portion of southeast Louisiana.
The Republican newcomer defeated State Senator Neil Riser in a runoff for Louisiana's 5th District.
U.S. House Speaker John Boehner held the swearing-in ceremony Thursday.
A special election was held after Rodney Alexander left his seat to take a job in Governor Bobby Jindal's administration.
In the runoff, McAllister received endorsements from both Republicans and Democrats as well as support from the stars of the popular "Duck Dynasty" TV show.
