Rep. McAllister signs up for re-election, with ice
BATON ROUGE - The registration period for Louisiana's Nov. 4 election has wrapped up.
U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister signed up on the last day of the three-day qualifying period with a flourish, doused with ice.
The embattled Republican congressman took the "ice bucket challenge" outside Secretary of State Tom Schedler's office Friday. The challenge is designed to bring donations and attention to the ALS Association.
Caught up earlier this year in a cheating scandal, the congressman is threatened in his re-election bid, drawing nine challengers in the 5th District race. That includes a last-minute surprise sign-up from Public Service Commissioner Clyde Holloway, a former congressman.
Also signing up on the last registration day was Republican Senate candidate Rob Maness, a tea party favorite challenging Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu.
