McAllister not running for re-election
BATON ROUGE - Louisiana GOP Rep. Vance McAllister, now widely known as the "Kissing Congressman", announced Monday that he will not seek re-election in November.
A security tape released earlier this month showed McAllister kissing Melissa Peacock, an aide and family friend. McAllister apologized and Peacock resigned.
In Monday's statement, McAllister called the incident a "personal failure" and apologized to his family and the people of the Fifth District of Louisiana. He said the past few weeks have been a trying time for his family and thanked them for their support and forgiveness.
Gov. Bobby Jindal and other Louisiana Republicans welcomed the news that the controversial representative won't be on the November ballot.
McAllister said he will serve out the rest of his term and will uphold the office to which he was elected to serve.
