Mayoral candidate faces animal cruelty charges
PORT ALLEN - Mayoral candidate Larry Bell is out of jail after he was arrested for one count of animal cruelty recently.
Four of Larry Bell's horses were taken by West Baton Rouge Animal Control almost two weeks ago. Richard Summers with WBAC says this is an ongoing problem with Bell, that they've talked to him about improving the health of his horses since November of 2012.
Bell's neighbor said he hadn't seen the horses in a couple of months, but the horses appeared healthy when Bell had them at him house.
"They looked fine, they were eating, they were galloping, they were drinking water. They looked fine. One was thick and one was kind of older, looked thin, but they looked like they were in decent health," said Ernest Pollard.
Summers says two of the underfed horses have put on weight since being placed in their care.
