BATON ROUGE - East Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden broke the silence regarding the firing of police chief Dewayne White. He didn't speak publicly. He released a letter explaining that White was not fired but on 'paid administrative leave.
WBRZ asked for an on-camera comment and Chief Administrative Officer William Daniel responded by saying, 'no comment.'
The letter lists 14 reasons for White's termination, including leaking information to the media, crime cameras, hiring his wife's godson and shredding documents after he was removed from his post.
White's attorney Jill Craft says the letter only helps her prepare for the public hearing -set for next week-- where White plans to challenge his termination. Craft also says that the allegations in the letter were false.
During Wednesday's metro council meeting the line item -to discuss changing the police chief position to an elected office-- was objected by council member John Delgado from District 12.
