PLAQUEMINE - Mayor Mary Sue Gulotta ordered Plaquemine Fire Chief Mackie Guillot to stop using his city-issued vehicle for personal business on trips out of town, following a series of reports by the WBRZ Investigative Unit. It's a complete about-face from what she told us Monday.

"It's not illegal," she said 72 hours ago.

But today, Gulotta told WBRZ she talked to the chief this week and banned him from using the unit to pick up his son from school two parishes away.

Our investigation revealed Chief Mackie Guillot and his wife Annette claim a homestead exemption at their primary residence at their home in Plaquemine.

Questions remain over how the chief is able to send his kid to school in Baton Rouge when 500 students who legitimately live in East Baton Rouge Parish are on a waiting list to go to the prestigious school.

On several occasions we captured video of the chief leaving Plaquemine with his son to bring him to school.

The State Legislative Auditor believes the chief's actions wasted your money.

"It gives me concern that this is not occasional or incidental use, but more personal use of the vehicle," State Legislative Auditor Darryl Purpera said Monday. "If it's personal use than that may run afoul of the constitution."

Even though the fire unit won't be traveling to Baton Rouge anymore, questions remain over how this has managed to go on for years.

Several council members we talked to said they believe the chief owes the City of Plaquemine some money. We'll keep you posted as this investigation continues.
