FRENCH SETTLEMENT – Livingston Parish deputies say a Maurepas man was arrested Wednesday after leading authorities on a multi-parish pursuit earlier this week.

Sheriff Jason Ard said 36-year-old Brandon Hoover was wanted by LPSO on felony possession of stolen property charges. Hoover was spotted in the southern part of the parish Wednesday. When deputies tried to stop his vehicle, Hoover fled.

Deputies say Hoover sped northbound on LA Hwy 16, eventually pulling off onto River Bend Road at the foot of the Amite River Bridge at French Settlement. Hoover then exited the vehicle and jumped into the river and tried to swim to the other side, where he was arrested.

Authorities transported Hoover to the Livingston Parish Detention Center and was booked on the following charged:

Two counts of felony possession of stolen property

Aggravated flight from an officer

Resisting arrest by flight

Aggravated obstruction of a public highway

Resisting an officer

Reckless operation of a motor vehicle

Driving under suspension

Two counts of possession of schedule 1 controlled substance

Possession of schedule 4 controlled substance

Deputies say the vehicle and trailer that Hoover was driving was also stolen from Alabama. LSPO said additional charges may be filed against Hoover from other law enforcement agencies.

Ard said the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
