TEMPE, ARIZONA- The devil is in the details and Arizona State's Sun Devil's mascot learned a tough lesson.
Sparky the mascot playfully jumped on an man recovering from back surgery at a football game. David Schapira says he laughed until he heard a pop and later found out it was a muscle in his back tearing.
Schapira says the mascot had no way of knowing he had just gotten out of the hospital since he had given his cane to his wife to hold while he stood on the sidelines. The mascot saw him and pounced.
Schapira says he's a lifelong Arizona State fan and he's not mad at Sparky but he may wear a warning sign next time.
The school apologized and offered to help pay his medical expenses.
