Maringouin man killed in accidental shooting
BATON ROUGE - Baton Rouge police identified the shooter and victim of an early Saturday morning shooting.
Authorities say around 3 a.m. Carl Joesph James Jr, 27, was shot by Tyrell King, 21. James was found with a single gunshot wound lying in the roadway near 8300 Scotland Avenue.
Police say the two were at a traffic light with James driving and King in the back seat. King accidentally shot James in the back while trying to unload a handgun, according to an arrest report.
Officers say 4 other passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and remained on scene until officers arrived.
EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
King (pictured) was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and illegal use of a weapon.
