Mardi Gras: Vieux Carre comand post
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - This Mardi Gras, police won't have far to haul pickpockets, obnoxious drunks and others arrested in the French Quarter.
Officials say mobile command post will be parked in the Quarter on Fat Tuesday and the days leading up to it. They say it will be staffed with both deputies and medical workers.
Because Mardi Gras is late this year - on March 8 - students on spring break are expected to swell the crowds in the Quarter and along parade routes through the city.
