ALBANY - Witnesses told WBRZ reporter Brett Buffington, neighbors tired of burglars preying on their community took the law into their own hands around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

As a group of guys were attempting to break into a trailer in a neighborhood at the corner of Strawberry Lane and Highway 43, two different people opened fire.  The people who fired shots saw the burglary taking place and shot at the group but no one was hit.  However, the homeowner who lived at the trailer being burglarized was injured when she chased the would-be crooks into a fence.  She cut her hand and had to be taken to the hospital, the unidentified woman's neighbor said.

"Alert neighbors indicated to deputies that 2 black males were attempting to make their way into a residence," Sheriff Jason Ard said. "A neighbor fired at least one warning shot. The still unidentified suspects fled on foot into a nearby wooded area where deputies are currently on scene.'

There was a large manhunt Wednesday afternoon for the crooks.
