Body of drowned man found; 2nd in three days on Grand Isle
GRAND ISLE - The body of a missing swimmer was found Wednesday morning, hours after he went under the water and did not resurface.
The body of Diogenes Zuniga was found about 100 feet off the beach, WWL TV reported. Both the local police chief and parish coroner confirmed the discovery. They said Zuniga was found around 8 a.m. WWL TV and WBRZ.com/WBRZ TV have a news-sharing partnership.
Zuniga was trying to get out of the water while holding his young son and went under after a woman came and took the child from him Tuesday. The woman told officers she took the 9-year-old and when she turned around from putting the boy on the beach, Zuniga was gone.
The Coast Guard searched with a boat and helicopter Tuesday night before discovering the body Wednesday morning.
The drowning was the second in Grand Isle in three days.
