Man who escaped in handcuffs caught
GONZALES - Deputies re-arrested a man who investigators said broke free during an arrest in Ascension Parish last night.
A department spokesperson said Ricardo Rodriguez is wanted for sex crimes out of Georgia.
An APSO deputy stopped Rodriguez Monday night in the area of Airline Highway and Highway 74. During the attempted arrest the deputy said Rodriguez broke free and took off on foot, with his hands still cuffed behind his back.
Investigators said they received a call around 2 p.m. that a man matching his description was seen walking through woods on Coontrap Road. Deputies in the area found Rodriguez and said he tried to run, but was quickly surrounded.
Rodriguez was booked on charges of with simple escape, theft, resisting an officer, and fugitive warrant from Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
