WALKER - The man who called police to a deadly car accident Sunday night says he was inside watching television when he heard a loud boom.

"It was horrible," said Reagan Snead. "There was a lot of screaming out here."

Snead says he ran outside and called 911. He says he saw people lying in a ditch, others in the road.

"I knew something bad happened," he said.

Orange spray paint marks the scene of the accident and debris is scattered along the ditch that lines the highway.

State Police say two cars pulled off the road attempting to remove a garbage compactor lying in the northbound lane of Hwy 447, a few miles north of Highway 16. Two drivers began placing caution triangles in the road to warn drivers about the obstacle. Police say a Toyota 4Runner ran off the right side of the road, hitting the two cars and five people.

Samuel Shropshire, 4, and Khaiden Ramsey, 6, died. 2 teens, a woman and the driver of the 4Runner were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

"That's horrible," said Snead. "That's the worst part about it, grown-ups is one thing, but kids, that's terrible."

State Police say the driver who left the garbage compactor in the road, 50-year-old Travis Rose was impaired and arrested. Police also suspect the driver of the 4Runner was impaired, too. Toxicology reports and charges are pending.
