Man wants mercy in hiring KKK hitman
BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA- A white man who tried to hire a Ku Klux Klan hitman to kill his black neighbor is seeking mercy by pleading guilty in Alabama.
Lawyers for Allen Wayne Morgan describe him as troubled and a drug-addicted veteran of the war in Iraq. They say he shouldn't spend more than five years in prison for arranging the hit last year.
Prosecutors want him to get ten years saying he tried his best to hire a supposed member of the Klan to kill the neighbor who he suspected of having sex with his wife. The hitman turned out to be with the FBI.
Morgans lawyers also contend he was suffering severe mental problems.
