PRAIRIEVILLE - Sheriff's deputies asked the public for help finding a shooting suspect out of Prairieville wanted for six counts of attempted murder.
Major Kevin Hanna with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies are looking for Matthew Paul "Smokey" Simon, 32, in connection with a shooting this past Friday.
Investigators said around 6 p.m. that day Simon fired at a vehicle parked at Bay Wash Carwash. They believe he was shooting at his ex-girlfriend's ex-boyfriend, who was in the vehicle with two other people. During the shooting Hanna said a passing vehicle on Highway 42 was also hit, but nobody in either vehicle was hurt.
Investigators said at the time of the shooting Simon was driving a maroon truck similar to a Nissan Frontier or Titan, and that he could also be driving a Nissan Versa with front end damage.
Simon is just under six feet tall and believed to be armed and dangerous. He's wanted for six counts of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a firearm and aggravated criminal damage to property.
Anyone with information about Simon's whereabouts should contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office at 225-621-INFO (4636).
