BATON ROUGE - LSU officials say a man has been arrested after a university catering van was stolen.

On May 17, a white Ford Van with LSU Catering written on the side was stolen from the LSU student union loading dock off of Highland Road at Raphael Semmes Drive.

Surveillance video caught a white man with thick curly brown hair walking to the van and leaving with it.

On May 25, LSUPD was made aware that the same van was located in the 4700 block of Alvin Dark Drive.

The van was processed where clothing, a Nextbook Tablet and a receipt to a store were found.

Investigators went to the store and located surveillance video of the same man making a purchase on May 21.

The only identifying item on the Nextbook Tablet that was found in the van was an email that was set up.

A help identify flyer was made with the suspect's description, however an East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office deputy arrested a man on a separate charge that matched the description on the flyer.

Burim Haziri, 26, was identified as the person on both surveillance videos. He was in EBR Parish Prison when investigators interviewed him. He stated that he did not steal the van and if his DNA was in it, he did not know why.

He later agreed to give a DNA sample and then retracted his statement.

Haziri was then released back to the prison where additional charges auto theft charges were added.

According to LSU spokesperson Ernie Ballard, Haziri has no affiliation with the university.

According to arrest records, Haziri was previously arrested for burglary of an inhabited dwelling, criminal damage to property and resisting an officer.

The arrest report also stated that Haziri has a "history for peeping through windows."
