BATON ROUGE - Police released photos Tuesday of a man they said robbed two stores in Baton Rouge this week, and prompted a midday search in the northern portion of the city.

Investigators said the first robbery happened Monday morning around 2:15 a.m. at a convenience store at 4536 Plank Road. They said the second was Tuesday around 11:25 a.m. at a fast food restaurant at 2805 Scenic Highway.

Police said both times the man reached over the counter and took money out of the cash register while he or someone else tried to make a purchase. Witnesses said he fled the convenience store in a white car driven by another man, and fled the fast food restaurant on foot.

Shortly after the Tuesday robbery officers closed a portion of Mulberry Street as they chased a man who matched the suspect's description. Foot patrol and K9s were used in the search, which did not result in an arrest.

Investigators described the man as 5' 10" tall, 150-160 lbs., with a thin build and short, curly afro.

Anyone with information about the robber's identity should call the Baton Rouge Police Armed Robbery Division at (225) 389-3845.
