Man shot while deputies execute search warrant
NEW ORLEANS - Police said a man was wounded during a shootout with Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputies who were serving a narcotics search warrant at a New Orleans home.
Police say the man suffered a leg wound early Thursday morning.
In a statement, New Orleans police say gunfire was exchanged during the breach of the door between deputies and the 52-year-old male target of the warrant.
Authorities did not say who fired first or what led to the shooting.
Police say the unidentified suspect faces eight counts of attempted murder, along with possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The statement said New Orleans police were with deputies, but they did not fire their weapons.
