Man shot by deputy when he refused to stop attacking mother
HAMMOND - State Police said they're investigating a deputy-involved shooting after a domestic disturbance in Tangipahoa Parish Tuesday afternoon.
LSP Sgt. Nick Manale said deputies shot and killed Michael Nichols, 48, after he wouldn't stop stabbing his mother at their home off Happywoods Road near the I-12/I-55 interchange.
Manale said sheriff's deputies were called to the home around 12:30 p.m. for a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, deputies said Nichols was attacking his mother with a knife at the residence and stabbing her repeatedly.
Investigators said Nichols refused repeated commands to stop stabbing her, so they shot and killed him.
State Police said the woman is in stable condition after the attack. Troopers did not release the name of the deputies involved in the shooting.
