NEW ORLEANS - A Destrehan engineer has been sentenced to six months in federal prison and fined $20,000 after pleading guilty to bribing a former St. John the Baptist Parish president.
Ray A. Davezac admitted paying a $5,000 bribe to former parish President William Hubbard.
He admitted owning and operating Davezac Consulting Engineers of Destrehan, which contracted to do work for the parish.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says on May 5, 2009, Hubbard solicited a bribe from Davezac and Davezac paid $5,000 to a local automobile dealership for the benefit of Hubbard.
Afterward, Davezac's company received a contract from the parish.
