A New Orleans man pled guilty today in federal court to making threats to kill President Obama.

47-year-old John Turnpaugh admitted to dialing 911 on December 30, 2009 and telling a New Orleans police dispatcher that he planned to kill the president and First lady Michelle Obama.

A Secret Service agent said he used telephone records to trace the call to Turnpaugh’s cell phone. An additional investigation showed Turnpaugh was also selling marijuana and illegally in possession of several firearms.

Turnpaugh pled guilty to making threats to kill the President, possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute, and to possessing four firearms in furtherance of his drug trafficking activity. He faces a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, as well as up to $750,000 in fines, and five years of supervised release.

Sentencing has been schedule for May 11, 2010.
