Man on bike hit by train, loses foot
SCHRIEVER - Sheriff's deputies said a man riding a bicycle fell on a set of train tracks in Terrebonne Parish and was hit by a cargo train
Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said the man was riding his bike at Burlington Court in Schriever around 8:30 a.m. when he fell on the train tracks. Larpenter said the man tried to roll off the tracks as the train was approaching, but was hit.
Deputies said EMS took the man to Thibodaux Regional Hospital, where he was flown to a New Orleans hospital. Because of his injuries Larpenter said the man's left foot and his right big toe had to be amputated.
The sheriff asked anyone with information about the morning's incident to call the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office detective bureau at (985) 876-2500.
