Man-made but out of this world
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA- An ingredient to make plastic has been found on a moon of Saturn by the Cassini spacecraft.
It's the first time propylene has been detected on another world. It's one of the building blocks of plastic used to make storage containers and other products.
Cassini detected it on the moon Titan, which is one of the few bodies in the solar system with a significant atmosphere made of hydrocarbons.
Cassini previously detected signs of propylene but scientists weren't convinced until the spacecraft measured the heat coming from Saturn and its moons and identified the chemical again.
