Man likely drowned running from police
GONZALES- It appears a man drowned while he tried to run from an officer who was dispatched to a domestic disturbance late Tuesday night.
Police said Jerrick Lane, 25, ran when a Gonzales Police officer arrived at the scene on Abe Street. Police said Lane had a gun and bolted upon their arrival.
Attempting to flee, Lane jumped into a bayou that runs along Abe Street but had trouble swimming. The officer tried to get Lane out, but could not find him.
The fire department was called to assist and eventually Lane's body was found.
The woman involved in the disturbance was not injured, a police spokesperson said.
