BATON ROUGE - Police are looking for the gunmen who shot a man and left him for dead in the middle of the road on North Foster around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the 54-year old man was walking down the sidewalk when he was gunned down by men on bicycles, then hit by a passing truck. Investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what happened.
Neighbors in the area say the victim walked down North Foster often and they spoke with him regularly. They say they're sad to see something bad happen to a good person.
"He's always walking down the streets you know, and if you call him and ask him to go to the store or clean up, he was always there to do something nice for somebody," explained a neighbor.
People who live there say they do not go out in the area at night because it isn't safe. That area is in the 70805 ZIP code, a major target for the Baton Rouge Crime Fighting Initiative.
This is the third deadly street crime in the city this week.
