Man killed in crash on New Year's Eve

SLAUGHTER- A man from Baton Rouge died in a vehicle crash on Highway 957 Monday evening.
State Police said Herman D. Ricard, 44, ran off the road in a curve, over corrected, and eventually crossed back over the highway and hit a utility pole then a tree.
Ricard was wearing a seatbelt, but it wasn't enough to keep him safe.
"Excessive speed is considered a factor in the crash," State Police said in a news release Monday night.
Toxicology tests will be performed to also check Ricard for impairment.
