Man killed after running into big rig
DONALDSONVILLE - Louisiana State Police said a Donaldsonville man died after running into the back of an 18-wheeler in Ascension Parish Friday morning.
Troopers said 30-year-old Oscar Bennett III died in the wreck on LA 3089 north of LA 70 just before 11 a.m. They said he was not wearing a seat belt when the wreck happened.
According to LSP the 18-wheeler involved in the wreck was going south on LA 3089 when it slowed down in order to make a left turn. Troopers said Bennett was heading the same direction when the big rig slowed down, but didn't slow down and instead hit the rear of the truck.
LSP said Bennett died at the scene. The driver of the big rig was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. Troopers said they do not suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash, but samples from both drivers were sent to the LSP Crime Lab for analysis.
