Man, kids reported missing before ambushing Angola gates
ANGOLA - Prison officials say guards opened fire on a vehicle with two children inside that crashed through the Angola State Penitentiary main entrance Sunday around 2:30 p.m.
Officials say correctional officers saw a suspicious vehicle approaching and backing up multiple times. Investigators said the car was being driven by Floyd Tillman and crashed through the Angola front gates.
The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office said the children's mother reported them missing along with her husband Saturday to Houma Police. Investigators said Tillman's wife told them he was a paranoid schizophrenic and was off his medication.
According to Angola Assistant Warden Cathy Fontenot, guards fired shots in attempt to stop the vehicle. Fontenot says no injuries were reported, but there is an investigation into why the suspect, Floyd Tillman, crashed into the entrance.
Investigators said Tillman's wife told them he had no connection to Angola.
Tillman was charged with Cruelty to juveniles, trespassing, criminal damage to property and remaining after forbidden.
His bond will likely be set tomorrow.
