BATON ROUGE - Police are looking for two men that broke into an apartment complex robbing two men at gun point, and forcing one to jump out a window.

Police caught a third man, Hayward Howard, 27, when they say he was running from the scene. Howard was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with two counts of armed robbery and six counts of attempted armed robbery.

The three suspects forced their way into an apartment at University Edge Apartments on West McKinley St. with handguns demanding money.

One victim was broke his leg and back jumping out of the fourth story window and another was beaten during the robbery.

"It kind of scared me, because you hear it, you don't know what's going on, but you don't want to go look, nobody really wants to go outside to see what happened," said Jordan Cole, who heard the commotion at the apartment complex.

But some people did peek out of their doors to see what was going on, that's when the three men tried to rob them as well, demanding cash and phones, even pushing one person into an elevator, according to a police report.

Howard told police he was robbing the victim because he owed him "weed money," according to the police report. Police also told News 2 they found drug paraphernalia outside the victim's apartment.

Some people in the area now want more security for the apartment complex.

"Maybe a guard, at least 24/7, because this is a rough neighborhood, a lot of people do get robbed right here, especially on McKinley street so it'd be a good idea if someone took the initiative to look out for these college students here," said Joyious Summer, who works nearby.

Police are still searching for the other two suspects, if you have information that could help contact BRPD.
