Man gets finger cut off during robbery
BATON ROUGE - Police told News Two a 76-year-old man lost his finger following a robbery inside his home.
Baton Rouge Police have not released the name of the suspect, but believe he is a around the age of 22-years-old.
It happened Saturday morning in the 4000 block of Alvin Dark Avenue in Baton Rouge.
"I jumped up. I said oh they going to kill him," said Wydetta Smith, a neighbor of the victim.
Witnesses say the unidentified victim left the suspect into his home after they say the suspect was going door-to-door asking for cigarettes.
"The old man must have opened the door and he pushed that old man in there and locked that door with that deadbolt," said Smith.
Smith said she and other neighbors had to intervene by banging on the door with hammer to get to the elderly victim as he was being assaulted. Once the door was open, the suspect ran out of the home, taking cash and a handgun belonging to the victim.
In addition to a cut severed finger, first responders said the victim was transported to the hospital with several cuts to his body including a deep cut to his ear.
The victim has surgery to attach the finger and is expected to recover.
