An Ascension Parish man convicted of attempted aggravated rape was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

John Ryan Stephens of Prairieville, who remained a fugitive more than five years, was featured on the "America's Most Wanted" TV show days before he was recognized and captured in April 2008.

Prosecutors had accused Stephens of inappropriate behavior with an 8-year-old girl.

Stephens went to trial facing the charge of aggravated rape but jurors returned a verdict of attempted aggravated rape.

Stephens' 45-year prison term comes without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
