MANSFIELD - A man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in the slaying of a 79-year-old DeSoto Parish resident.

22-year-old Martavia King of Gloster was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

George Winston, an assistant district attorney, says King agreed to testify against two others charged in the February 2014 slaying of Nathaniel Cash.

King, 25-year-old Malcolm Hall of Gloster and 26-year-old Dalduran Brandon of Frierson were accused of breaking into Cash's home, tying him up and taking money and a pistol.

An autopsy showed Cash died of a heart attack. Authorities say he also had a broken vertebra in his neck, caused when someone tried to choke him while he was being tied up.

Hall and Brandon are set for trial in March.
