BATON ROUGE - A 30-year-old Baton Rouge man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and sentenced to 17 years in prison in a 2004 home-invasion slaying that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.
Freddie Powell, who was scheduled to stand trial in May on a second-degree murder charge, pleaded guilty Thursday to the lesser charge in the killing of Andre Chinn on Dec. 1, 2004.
Chinn was shot in the head at his apartment. Police say the apartment had been ransacked and the furniture in the den and bedroom overturned.
