Man found guilty of beating 82-year-old stepfather
HOUMA- A 51-year-old Houma man faces up to 15 years in prison for beating up his 82-year-old stepfather who died about five months later.
The Terrebonne Parish District Attorney's Office tells The Courier a six-person jury found Simon Fontenot guilty of aggravated second-degree battery Thursday.
Fontenot was arrested on Nov. 10 after he allegedly hit Millard Molitor with a chair, threw him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him in the face.
Family members have claimed that Molitor died because of the severity of his injuries, but prosecutors said they could not find any direct evidence to prove this allegation.
Prosecutors said they remain unsure as to what caused Fontenot's actions, which reportedly occurred after he got into an argument with Molitor.
Fontenot will be sentenced on Oct. 26.
