VILLE PLATTE - The State Fire Marshal's office is currently investigating a house fire where the body of a 62-year-old man was recovered.

Officials say around 1 p.m. Sunday, Ville Platte firefighters were called to a residential fire on Calcasieu Street. As crews worked to suppress the fire, the body of 62-year-old James Malveaux was found in the home. The home suffered significant damage from the fire, officials said.

State Fire Marshal investigators were then called to the scene. Investigators released the victim's body to the Evangeline Parish Coroner after a thorough examination, according to officials. An official cause of death has not been determined at this time.

While the official cause of the fire has not been determined, investigators were able to establish the region of the house where the fire originated. According to officials, there were a number of "possible heat sources" located in that region of the home.
