BATON ROUGE - A man is facing charges after his 2-year-old son picked up a gun and shot his brother back in April.

On April 24, officers responded to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in reference to a shooting incident involving an 8-year-old boy. The shooting happened that afternoon in a parking lot in the 1700 block of Marque Ann Drive.  The boy was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. According to the arrest report, the child was shot in the left shoulder.

The injury was not considered to be life-threatening.

During the course of the investigation, authorities learned that Johntra Bell had left a loaded handgun inside a car while two children were inside. The 2-year-old child was able to get the gun and accidentally shoot his 8-year-old brother.
