Man drowns at Jefferson Lake apartments
BATON ROUGE - EBR Sheriff’s Office deputies say a man drowned in a lake near an apartment complex on Jefferson Highway.
Deputies said they were dispatched to the location in reference to a drowning victim. Investigators learned that the victim was at the Jefferson Lakes apartment complex and allegedly wasn’t feeling well when he walked onto an island in a lake at the complex.
The victim fell into the lake, panicked as he got further away from the bank and eventually disappeared under the water. None of the witnesses were able to swim, so they called 911.
When St. George firefighters arrived on the scene, a firefighter located the victim underwater and brought him to shore. CPR was performed, and the victim was transported to Oschner where he was later pronounced dead.
The EBR Coroner has yet to identify the victim.
