Man dies after crash to avoid golf cart
HOUMA - State police say a man died nearly a week after he crashed his SUV in an effort to avoid a golf cart driven by a teenager who, authorities say, had been drinking.
The Courier reports that 63-year-old Cleveland Towns from Montegut died Saturday. He had been hospitalized after an accident early on the morning of May 5.
Police said Towns was driving north when he encountered the golf cart. He swerved the Oldsmobile Bravada he was driving to avoid it and ran off the road. The golf cart was operated by 18-year-old Katelyn Duplantis, who was booked with negligent injuring after taking a breath test.
Authorities said they will discuss the matter with the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney's Office before deciding on other charges.
