WHITE CASTLE- A man from Plaquemine died after he was thrown from the bed of a pickup truck during a rear-end collision. The crash happened on LA 1, just south of LA 69 yesterday evening.
Hayward J. McKnight, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Louisiana State Police say McKnight was riding in the bed of a pickup truck driven by Charles Duncan, 62, of White Castle.
State Police say Duncan slowed down to turn left on Major Doc Foley Street and was rear-ended by a Ford truck driven by William Lefeaux, 57, of Maringouin.
McKnight was thrown from the bed of the truck and hit by the Ford, according to State Police. No one else was injured in the crash.
It is not illegal for people over 13 to ride in the bed of a pickup truck.
According to investigators, alcohol is not suspect as a factor for Lefeaux, however it is suspected for Duncan. State Police say charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
