Deputies: Man killed when he tried to stop fight in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE – A 23-year-old man was tracked down across the river and will face murder charges in the shooting death of the bystander of a fight who tried to settle the tension of an argument overnight.
Andre Wright, 25, was shot and killed on Mariner Drive late Sunday. Investigators said Wright tried to stop a fight between his brother and the shooter, Eric Robertson, when Robertson shot Wright.
Robertson was arrested Monday afternoon in Addis. He is charged with murder, illegal use of a weapon and being a felon with a gun.
Robertson and Wright's brother were fighting over a woman, deputies said, when the situation escalated. Wright was shot and killed when he tried to intervene.
Robertson ran away after the shooting and a special task force tracked him down a few hours later.
Wright appears to have been part of a gospel group based on Facebook posts shared after his death.
