Man charged with raping mentally challenged woman
ASSUMPTION PARISH- A man is charged with raping a 20 year old mentally challenged woman. Lucito Romero, 26, is being held for forcible rape. His charge could be upgraded to aggravated rape.
Investigators say Romero saw the victim riding her bike on Elaine Street when he stopped and picked her up. The victim told deputies, Romero then took her to his friends house where he had sex with her.
"She told him 'no' numerous times and tried to push him off," said Sheriff Mike Waguespack.
When Assumption Parish deputies went to interview Romero, he allegedly took off running. He was caught in woods and told deputies he ran because he is on parole.
Romero claimed "it was 'consensual.'"
"It is possible that this charge may be upgraded to Aggravated Rape once the victim's level of mental infirmity can be established," said Sheriff Waguespack.
Romero is held with-out bond at the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
