BATON ROUGE - A father tipped off police after his son admitted to committing a robbery.

Abdullah Elayan, 26, was arrested and charged with the armed robbery of the Beta Wireless Cellular Marketplace on Muriel Avenue.

The victim told authorities two unknown men entered the business shortly before 1 p.m. on Jan. 22. One of the men was wearing a mask that covered the lower part of his face and was armed with a small fixed blade knife.

The man with the knife was later identified as Elayan.

During the robbery, the victim said the suspects demanded she open the register and give them the money inside. Then, the suspects went to a glass display case and forcefully removed five cell phones.

The two fled the scene shortly after.

Later, authorities say Elayan confessed the crime to his father who later called the police. According to the affidavit, Elayan's father wanted authorities to arrest his son so that he could seek treatment for a "rapid drug addiction."

The victim was shown a photo lineup and was able to identify Elayan. He was later arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
