ALBANY – An out-of-town man was arrested in connection with an early morning, deadly hit-and-run on I-12 Tuesday.

Cody Terry, 35, of Houston, is charged with negligent homicide, felony hit -and-run, reckless operation, driving without a license and failure to register a motor vehicle. Terry was driving a sedan on eastbound I-12 near La. 43 when he rear-ended an SUV, State Police said. The collision caused the larger, SUV to lose control and smash into a concrete interstate barrier.

All eight people in the SUV were injured and an elderly woman, Paula Cruze, died after being taken to the hospital. Cruze was from Mexico City, Mexico.

Investigators said Terry left the vehicle he was driving behind and ran from the scene. He was found in the Holden area later.
